Lights, camera… innovation! Nollywood is making history with “Makemation,” Africa’s first feature film about artificial intelligence (AI). Award-winning director Michael ‘AMA PSALMIST’ Akinrogunde brings this groundbreaking movie to life. The premiere takes place in Lagos on April 18, 2025. Subsequently, it will hit cinemas across Africa, the U.S., Europe, and the Middle East in May.
“Makemation” is more than just a film; it’s a movement. It tells the inspiring story of a brilliant but underprivileged teenage girl. She uses technology, grit, and determination to overcome challenges. Consequently, the film highlights real-world issues. These include STEM education, digital skills, financial literacy, gender equality, and AI-driven healthcare solutions.
A powerhouse team of young creatives, many in their 20s and 30s, collaborates with Nollywood stars to create this vision. The cast features Tomi Ojo, Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD), Shaffy Bello, Ibrahim Chatta, and Chioma Chukwuka. Nile Entertainment, led by Moses Babatope, handles the film’s exclusive distribution.
“Makemation” has generated significant buzz. It has already screened at major international events. These include the 2024 Global AI Summit (Riyadh), Kenya Innovation Week, and an exclusive screening at the U.S. Consul General’s residence in Lagos. Now, with the Global Inclusivity and AI Africa Conference approaching, Nollywood is ready to lead global conversations on AI and digital transformation.
Nollywood, the world’s second-largest film industry by volume, embracing AI is a game-changer. While the specific tech behind “Makemation” remains confidential, insiders hint at possibilities. These include AI-driven scriptwriting, digital de-aging, and CGI-enhanced storytelling. This leap could redefine Nollywood’s production model. It could make films more advanced, efficient, and globally competitive. Furthermore, it could create new roles for AI specialists and tech-driven storytellers.
“Makemation” aims to spark vital conversations. These conversations will center on technology, innovation, and the future of Africa. It promises a cinematic experience that educates, inspires, and pushes boundaries. Ultimately, it demonstrates the power of storytelling and technology to change the world.
Therefore, mark your calendars! April 18, 2025, is just the beginning. “Makemation” is more than a film; it’s the future.
