Microsoft Announces Shutdown of Skype After 22 Years

Microsoft has announced the permanent shutdown of Skype, the pioneering internet communication service, effective May 5, 2025, the company confirmed this on X. This move marks the end of a 22-year journey that revolutionized the way we connect online.

Skype Launched in 2003 by a group of Nordic and Estonian entrepreneurs, it quickly became synonymous with Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology, enabling users worldwide to make voice and video calls over the internet. For those with paid subscriptions, Skype Credits and subscriptions will remain active until the next renewal period ends.
